Diagnosis
Since there are many types of tapeworms, it is difficult for a doctor to know what type it is just by description. A stool sample is necessary to help the doctor identify the type of worm you are infected with. If a stool sample isn't helpful, a blood sample will be taken. The doctor will observe your blood and check for large amounts of antibodies. The antibodies in the blood help to fight infections found inside the body. If the doctor concludes your case of tapeworms are very bad, a CT (Computed Tomography) or MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) may be done to check for the amount of damage done to your body.
